Aaron Eckhart is Kickin’ Butt and Taking Names in Thank You For Smoking

thankyou for smokingThank You For Smoking will give you a hilarious look at the world of Lobbyists. Aaron Eckhart and his mod-squad mis-inform, spin, pay people off - everything that people have come to hate about the seedier part of big business. This flick is part political satire, part social statement and all entertaining.

Based on the book by Christopher Buckley, and directed by Jason Reitman, this movie idea has been kicking around Hollywood for 10 years (since the book was published). The film was finally put together for only $7 million and an all-star cast - check out this talent: Aaron Eckhart, Maria Bello, Adam Brody, Sam Elliot, Katie Holmes, Rob Lowe, William H Macy, and Robert Duvall. It takes a great script and a director with vision to recruit this kind of cast with such a small budget.

The story follows Nick Taylor (Eckhart) as he charms and seduces his way through talk shows, reporters and congressional hearings. He works hard to convince everybody that smoking is cool and healthy on behalf of his bosses. All the while, he’s trying to be a real father to his son - who tags along with him on his business trips and learns that he’s got his father’s “gift of the gab”.

If you think this movie might just be the kind of big business spin that they portray in the movie, keep this in mind - No one is smoking in the entire movie.

This movie represents itself as being bold and iconoclastic, yet it is precisely the opposite.

The movie faithfully toes the party line that smokers are bold individualists and non-smoking advocates are bossy little Hitlers just out to wreck everyone’s fun out of spite because they envy smokers and cannot enjoy their own lives.

This is the basic idea that Big Tobacco has been using to make billions for more than thirty years. If you want to see the result of this lie, go to your local hospital, or cemetary.
