Kellie Pickler is Country Music’s Wild Pony
During season 5 of American Idol, even Simon Cowell found someone he liked. In fact, he saw more potential in Kellie Pickler than in season 4 winner Carrie Underwood. So it’s not surprising that despite finishing in 6th place, Kellie was snapped up by BNA Records and is now debuting her new album Small Town Girl.
Time will tell whether she’s got the staying power to make it in music, but if her life is any measure of her strength, she’ll easily overcome any obstacles thrown in her path. Kellie was born in New Orleans Louisiana and raised in North Carolina. Her southern charm and quirky personality were a big hit with fans and judges on Idol where her frequent mispronounciations rivalled the conversational faux pas’ of even Jessica Simpson.
She has a lot to talk about and this first album shows that. She’s had a tumultuous start in life; her mother abandoned her in favor of a lifestyle of writing bad checks and forging prescription drug slips, while her father has had a lifelong problem with drugs and alcohol and spent time in jail for armed robbery and aggravated assault. Kellie’s grandparents became her legal guardians and thanks to them, somewhere along the way she’s found both a voice and a strength to overcome the odds.
Small Town Girl has a great collection of songs from the first single Red High Heels, to the comedic Things that never cross a man’s mind. You’ll find her never-say-can’t spirit in songs like Gotta Keep Moving, I Wonder, Wild Ponies, and Girls Like Me. And if you’re a fan of the Dixie Chicks, I’m On My Way echoes their energy.
Kellie Pickler … just a small town girl with the whole world in front of her.
