How to Think About Style: Confidence and “Owning It”
In style, out of style … style, style style!! Never wear white after Labor Day is one of many style rules that rule our lives. But, what if you break these rules? Can you? Would you? Is it even possible to survive such a fashion faux pas? The answers to these questions are so what, yes, sure, and you bet it is.
How? Easy - just own it. The key to owning your style is confidence and there are some real things you can do boost yours in those moments when others are trying to tear your sense of style down.
When people are giving you odd looks and snickers (not the candy bar), shoot them a smile, say “Hi”, and continue on your way. They didn’t bust you - you just busted them!
Every group has someone who will appoint themselves as fashion guru and exclaim “Oh my Gosh - what ARE you wearing?” No big deal. Have a story about what you’re wearing and why you’re wearing it. Ignore the guru’s snarky comeback comments and everyone else will too - in fact, they’ve been waiting for someone to come along and ignore this little style dictator. You are the breath of fresh air they needed.
We spend a lot of time worrying about what others think. Especially where style is concerned. Groupthink always demands that everyone conform to what the group thinks. Think differently and you might be on your own. Do it with confidence and you’ll find yourself setting the trends that everyone else wants a piece of - ’cause you own it.
